Uploading to Staging - Something bad happened

I am trying to pull from staging site into DevKinsta. Got stuck at the above when download reach 99%

Hello @Chin_Soon_Yeo  and welcome to Kinsta Community!

To clarify, you got that “Something bad happened” when you tried to “Add site → Import from Kinsta” of your Staging site into your DevKinsta, right? (a bit confused as the title mentions “Uploading to Staging” instead).

Could you please send us the most recent “main.log” file that would log that site import process (but failed)? we will then check and review your main.log file and see if we can find anything from it.

Best regards,
Agus

Thanks.

Thank you for the main.log file you shared!

As I could see from that file, I’ve noticed the following rsync error (while processing your site’s transfer process), like:

[2023-11-06 12:25:48.753] [info]  [ProgressIndicator] { isFailed: false, isOpen: true }
[2023-11-06 12:25:48.835] [warn] [terminalExec] Error: rsync error: some files/attrs were not transferred (see previous errors) (code 23) at main.c(1861) [generator=3.2.7]

Is it always failed at the same percentage each time you’re trying to pull the Staging site into DevKinsta?

I also noticed that you have this sub-folder inside your ~/public folder:

q1gn4sygf4-staging.onrocket.site/

(that seems to be another WP files?)
I would suggest to remove that sub-folder and its contents if you’re not using it on our server (and only keep files/folders that are really needed by your WordPress site hosted on our server).
Once you’ve removed that sub-folder and its contents, please try to pull the Staging site to your local computer with DevKinsta and see if it’s working?

Best regards,
Agus

Hi Agus

Thank you. I will do as you suggested and try again. Removed folder. Still get stuck at 99 to 100% mark.

main.log (859.9 KB)

After each failed attempt, the website and control panel becomes very slow.

Thank you for your reply @Chin_Soon_Yeo

I could see that sub-folder q1gn4sygf4-staging.onrocket.site/ is no longer there on your Staging’s public folder.

I double checked further and just noticed these in your main.log file :

and when I checked into your Staging account, indeed I noticed the same broken Symlink for those sub-folders:

So I think these broken Sylink (pointing to invalid/incorrect / non-exist files) were causing the import process to fail in DevKinsta.

I would suggest to check and remove those broken symlink files as shown in the above screenshot and give it another try. Hopefully that’s all and no more errors  :crossed_fingers: otherwise, you may want to send us your main.log again so we can check .

PS: and about this:

After each failed attempt, the website and control panel becomes very slow.

I don’t think it would affect your Staging site’s performance and/or the MyKinsta control panel to become very slow as DevKinsta shouldn’t affect them at all (it’s completely a separate program that runs on your local computer). If you’re experiencing slow access to your Staging site and/or with the MyKinsta control panel, please contact/reach out to our support team, so they can help to check and assist you further.

Thank you. It worked after removing those links. Is DevKinsta smart enough to avoid overwriting transactional order and user data created by Woocommerce, Paid Membership Pro and Buddyboss when pushing data to staging? And then from staging to live site?

You’re most welcome! I’m glad we found the culprit and you’ve sorted it out!

DevKinsta will push your local site’s file(s) and/or Database to your Staging account on our server.
At the moment, you can only select/deselect file(s) or folder(s) to be pushed from your local site to your Staging site, but there’s no option to select/deselect specific database’s table(s) to be pushed.

You will be able to only select/deselect the whole DB to be pushed or not, so if the “Database” is selected, then the whole DB’s tables (used by Woocommerce, Paid membership pro and whatnot) on your staging will be overwritten.

Similar thing when you push your Staging site to Live, you will only be able to either to push either your Files(folders) and/or Database as shown here:
