I’m running a small site that offers PS2 BIOS files and emulation guides for retro gamers: https://ps2biosonline.com/. I’m trying to figure out the best way to host downloadable files and make them load quickly on a WordPress site without slowing it down.
Does anyone here have tips on optimizing file downloads or using a CDN for this kind of content? I want users to have a smooth experience when downloading large files like BIOS packs. Any suggestions would be really helpful!
For websites hosted through Kinsta WordPress hosting, Kinsta CDN can easily cache and serve static files with no impact on site performance.
Keep in mind that speciality file types might not be in the list of cached filetypes, which is available for review here:
For filetypes not cached by the CDN, they can still be served from the server directly with minimal impact on performance, although download speed could be lower if the visitor is geographically far away from the server.
If bandwidth usage for files downloaded directly from the server is very high, we may ask you to use a third party service to host the large files, or we could look into expanding Kinsta CDN filetypes to cover your filetype.
Please note that if you plan to host materials that you do not own the copyright for, this could be in violation of our terms of service, section 6a:
Prohibited Customer Content. You represent, warrant, and agree that Customer Content shall not (i) infringe, misappropriate, or violate any patent, copyright, trademark, trade secret, confidentiality, moral, or privacy right, or any other proprietary or intellectual property right; (ii)
I am not saying that your planned content is certainly in violation, so I suggest checking to make sure you have appropriate legal permissions.
