What are the benefits of using Kinsta DNS management vs CloudFlare free?

Hi, I have just returned to Kinsta after being away from WP ecosystem for about 10 years. I not a tech person in terms of trade, but I have been managing my own websites for many years now. So, I may need a little bit of education in some areas.

I have been using CloudFlare to manage all my domains. Almost all on their Free Plans I do pay a small fee for extra page rules etc. I have used CloudFlare free plan for many years now. And use some paid add-ons for Rules and “Workers.” I want to know what is the benefit of migrating my domain to Kinsta, and would have access to CloudFlare tools like “Page Rules” and “Workers Routes” if I move DNS management to Kinsta? Is there a way to do this?

Am I right in understanding Kinsta is using Cloudflare for DNS management or is it AWS? What is the main benefit of using DNS management of Kinsta if you are also using CloudFlare to manage the DNS. I am not an expert in this area and I don’t want to lose access to “Workers Routes” and “Page Rules” that CloudFlare provides.

Can someone help me with this and give me some advice. Thank you.

Welcome to our Kinsta Community!

Kinsta DNS is a premium Anycast DNS service powered by Amazon Route 53. The main advantage of using Kinsta DNS, rather than managing your DNS through a separate dashboard like Cloudflare, is that you only need to log in to one account (MyKinsta) to manage both your WordPress site and Kinsta DNS. However, please note that Cloudflare offers additional features beyond just DNS services that you might want to keep.

Can I move to Kinnsta DNS and still benefit from using CloudFlare W"orkers Routes”?

Also, what’s happened to Kinsta live chat support? It has completely disappeared for the last two days from my dashboard. I can’t find any live chat option only community. forum/

Hello @Nomads :waving_hand:

When using Kinsta DNS (or any other non-Cloudflare DNS) you have no control of Kinsta-Cloudflare integration. Some control (caching, security rules, page rules, etc.) can be obtained by using Cloudflare DNS, because your personal Cloudflare account zone (and its rules) would execute before request reaches Kinsta-Cloudflare zone.

As for the chat button disappearing from Mykinsta, that doesn’t happen often and it’s usually a local issue. I can confirm that chat works and customers are able to reach us, therefore, please try:

  • switching VPN off (if you are using it), or try using one
  • clear browser cache
  • disable browser extensions, one of them could be causing this
  • switch to another browser

Kind regards!
