Q: Date/Time this occurred (Provide your time zone also)
A: 4:00pm ET

Q: DevKinsta Version
**A:**2.13.6 (2.13.6.9096)

Q: OS Version
A:Tahoe 26.3.1

Q: Docker Desktop Version
A: 4.73.0

Q: Were any error codes or messages observed? If so, what were they?
A: Error establishing a database connection. This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or that contact with the database server at localhost could not be established.

Q: Detailed Description of the Problem
A: I’m trying to create a new site. I’ve already gone through the troublshooting steps to ensure I’m using the correct password, and have looked in the DB to double-check it. DevKinsta appears to complete the process of creating a new site, although when I get to the site info page, the WP Admin button is grayed out. If I click on Open site it wants the DB name, username, password, etc. but no matter what I fill out, it’s always wrong. Previously, I used the Local by Flywheel app and had no problems. I did have to trust the certificate to get SSL, which I don’t see any instructions about in the DevKinsta documentation. I just want to get this to work and I’m really frustrated. If I try and pull a site down to local from my Kinsta account, that doesn’t work either. I get the DK0066 error, the log says **“**Access denied for user ‘root’@‘172.172.0.5’ (using password: YES)” when I search for it in main.log.

Any help resolving this would be appreciated.

Hi @socialspark,

Welcome to the Kinsta Community!

Regarding the error message “Access denied for user ‘root’@‘172.172.0.5’ (using password: YES)”, could you please try the solution mentioned in this other thread? Error: Something bad happened - when trying to import site from myKinsta - #15 by VladimirM

Please let us know how it goes.

I have done those steps already and it didn’t work. Since then I have also deleted all of the devkinsta containers and recreated them.

One thing I don’t understand is the username I created is franeleazer, but it persists in typing “root” as the username in the database details of the site: DevKinsta - 2026-05-13_16-35-40 - TechSmith Screencast

So when it’s asking for those details when I try and open the site am I supposed to replace root with franeleazer for the username, and should I leave “localhost” as the host, or change it to 127.0.0.1? I have tried all possibilities and none worked, but I need to know for future reference.

Thanks,
Fran

Hello there :waving_hand:

The ‘root’ is for main database user, therefore, you should use root when taking the steps outlined here: Error: Something bad happened - when trying to import site from myKinsta - #15 by VladimirM

Sometimes it takes a few times to get it right, it’s not a straightforward manual, I know, but please try taking it once again from the top.

Kind regards!
